Punikkitatti on herkullinen ruokasieni ja se antaa langoille kullansävyisen värin!

Metsä on jälleen täynnä herkkuja! Mustikoita, vadelmia, kantarelleja ja nyt nousee tatit. Nuori punikkitatti on hyvä ruokasieni. Teen siitä piirakoita ja muhennoksia.

                                        

Punikkitatti on oiva myös värjäysaineena. Viime syksynä sain Sanskilta lahjaksi 4 uniikkia merinolankakerää jotka oli värjätty punikkitatilla.

Tein langoista itselleni lämmittävän hartiahuivin.

Mohairgoats give highquality yarns in Puumala!

When I started this blog my sincere idea was to write about art, artists, all the countries and cultures I have seen, about food and about people I have met - everything that give colours to my days...
Now, one and a half years later , I realize that even if i travelled far and to unknown destinations during autamns, winters and springs my summers in Finland at lake Saimaa have become so important to me that my blog is about them - mostly. And about plants and the colours they give to yarn

I have not been a knitter... - but I became one when I met Sanski my neighbourg in Puumala. She is a talented artisan who does a lot of things but in the summer she also dyes yarns at the lake.

Two years ago two mohairgoats ended up to live with Sanski and her tibetian mastifs. She started to dream about a mohairgoatfarm!
Today she has already 5 goats - Helmi and Sulo where born about 6 weeks ago.

From the older goats Sanski really gets a good amount of mohair that she spins by hand. The result is a very, very exclusive yarn. Sanskis latest invention is to make luxury boucle. It is so extremly beautiful and I hope that it will find its way to the hands of topdesigners and knitters who understands its value. Thank you Sanski for a sunny summerday at the clear waters of Saimaa! It was again an amazing experience to see how plants and muschrooms and natural indigo gave colours to your yarns and my days!

Strong and bright yellows from birch and march tea!

On this beautiful summerday I had the oppotunity to help Sanski with her first yarndyingsession this year. I asked her what to bring and her answer was : anything. Out I went yesterday for a walk in the forest. I picked birch and march tea. Both give bright yellow colours. The one of the march tea slightly darker and warmer.

The colour of the yarn on the left is the one from march tea. The colour on the left comes from birch.

Colour of birch and colour of birch with a hint of natural indigo  becomes green!

 

Mohairgoat Lassi and the luxury yarn that comes from him!

May I introduce Lassi to you. He is a young mohairgoat living in Puumala with Sanski, her 3 other mohairgoats and her 2 dogs.

I have been creating mostly scarves and mittens for about one and a half year now - from italian merinowool. Wool dyed by naturecolours.

And surprisingly - I have been able to inspire a huge amount of knitters.

Last week Sanski sent me something new. Very, very thin and delicate wool from her goat Lassi. I had to try it out many times before the result that I wanted turned out. Now they are ready my first mohairmittens with luxury applications from Kuwaiti textilebazars.

The result is extremly light and warm. I hope that they will find their way to someone who needs warm hands on a festive occasion.

Inspired by the sky....

2014 is going towards its end. A year with loss and worries for me.
But as always I have got my comfort in nature and its colours.  Nature is present in the italian merinowool dyed with colours from nature by Sanski. Knitting has given me many relaxing moments also this year. My latest works are scarves for two stylish gentlemen.

Upea kesä alkaa olla lopuillaan ja käperryn sohvannurkkaan selailemaan neulomiskirjoja ja lehtiä etsien inspiratiota uusiin neuleisiin. Villa on nyt "cool".

Syksyn värit ja hehku merinovillaan ja mohairiin syntyy sienistä.

Runsaan vuoden olen tuntenut Sanskin ja olen saanut jakaa häneen kanssaan iloa jota värit ja tässä tapauksessa luonnonvärit tuottavat.
Ihailen hänen taitoja ja värisilmää. Olen myöskin oppinnut paljon. Värjäämisestä, kasveista ja sienistä. Olen intohimoinen sienestäjä ja nykyään kulkee retkillä mukana värjäyssienten kori. Kerään nykyään myös sieniä jotka aikaisemmin vaikuttivat kelvottomilta mutta jotka  antavat värinsä upeille merinovillalangoille ja mohairlangoille.
Tänään oli upea päivä Saimaalla. Oli ilo seurata värjäystä.Lankojen värilähteet olivat tänään: herkkutatti, verihelttaseitikki, veriseitikki, punavyöseitikki, marja-aronia ja tarhakäenkaali.
- Ja värjäyskoira Ohto oli rauhallisesti hengessä mukana.
